Science of verification of traditionists is one of the branches of Islamic sciences that responsible for identifying the identity and condition of narrators of hadiths. This science has a special place in validating the news of Ahad and it can be said that it is considered as one of the prerequisites for achieving the Ijtihad. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the feasibility of ijtihad in the science of verification of traditionists , and the scope of the ijtihad in this science is compared with two approaches, imitative and ijtihad. According to the processing of the information in descriptive-analytical method, the conclusion has finally been reached that in both approaches, ijtihad is inevitable. Of course, ijtihad in the imitative approach is limited to the efforts that lead to the discovery of the opinion of the previous scholars about the narrators. But in the approach of ijtihad, ijtihad has a wider scope and the judgment about narrators without imitating the previous scholars is studied by using all evidences. Whatever it is, the presence of the element of ijtihad in the science of verification of traditionists is an undeniable necessity.
